‘Plan B’ tax proposal makes sense

With two-and-a-half months before November’s election and nary a peep from the campaign in support of a dedicated funding stream for affordable housing, apparently we weren’t the only ones questioning plans by Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority (GVRHA) to approach voters.

That’s why we believe Gunnison County Commissioners were justified this week in pumping the brakes on the property tax proposal. (To pose a ballot question, the housing authority partnership requires buy-in from each participating local government.) This gives GVRHA and its backers at least another year to solidify plans, address unanswered questions and garner a broad base of community support.
