Confessions of a modern-day football fan

I confess, somewhat guiltily, that I love the game of football. Love to watch it. Loved to play it when I was a kid. Some great memories exist for me around this game — from suiting up for Friday Night Lights in high school, to gathering with family and friends for traditional New Year’s Day college bowl games to, of course, the Broncos first Super Bowl victory in 1998.

Why the reservation in acknowledging this attraction? The reasons swirl around the inherent violence of the sport, and the ridiculous lengths to which we have prompted the game’s biggest stars to become, well, big stars.
