A healthy perspective

I’ve driven Hwy. 135 between Gunnison and Crested Butte too many times to count over the years, and still the experience is never far from breathtaking. Transitioning out of the high desert, through the Almont river canyon and into the alpine setting framed by Ruby Range, Paradise Divide and the Elk Mountains can make a person feel like Alice entering Wonderland.

A couple of Saturdays ago, on a late afternoon trip north to catch a session of the Crested Butte Film Festival, the scene was enough to make even a grizzled veteran of said commute take notice. Others were stopped in their tracks; motorists pulling over left and right, obscuring their view of an otherworldly natural setting by trying to capture it on their cell phones.
