No room for gender bias in the outdoors

“Has your lady-friend been up here before?” the guy asked me last week, right before the hike-a-bike section on Canyon Creek.

“My sister?” I responded, referring to the gal who was just barely behind us, pedaling up the road. “No, it’s her first time.”

“Is she going to be yelling at you when she gets up here?” This took me a little by surprise.

“No, I prepared her for it,” I said. “And, she’s pretty tough.”
