A punchbowl analogy for the power grid

Consider for a moment a punchbowl as a representation of the power grid. While not a perfect analogy, it does a fair job of illustrating certain key, relevant aspects of the grid.

But first, let me point out some important differences. The most notable shortcoming of this analogy is its inability to demonstrate the need for transmission and distribution lines to move power from the point of generation to the point of end use. It also fails to illustrate the limited capacity of such lines.
