Mine co.’s financial decline results in call to action

Fears that a weakening financial picture for mining company U.S. Energy could disrupt operations at a water treatment plant near Crested Butte have led two local groups to call on town leaders for assistance. Representatives from environmental advocacy group High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA) and mine opponent Red Lady Coalition (RLC) urged Town Council Monday to lobby state and federal agencies to require a higher level of bonding for the water treatment plant at the base of Mt. Emmons, just outside Crested Butte.
