Linda ‘Lin’ Maureen Sweitzer

Sept. 1, 1947 - Sept. 2, 2017 Linda M "Lin" Sweitzer went to fly with the birds after a long brave fight with ovarian cancer. She passed away shortly after celebrating her 70th birthday, surrounded by love in her home in Crested Butte, Colo. Born to Jack and Mercedes Swartz in Butte, Mont. on Sept. 1, 1947. Lin graduated from Ft. Collins High School in 1965. She then moved to the Gunnison valley to attend Western State College. There she earned an Art degree and teaching certification. During her early years in Crested Butte she spent her winter's teaching skiing and summers exploring ghost towns and enjoying everything the mountains had to offer. She then opened several successful small businesses specializing in everything from vintage antiques to pet boutiques. She was a picker long before it was the cool thing to do. Lin was an amazing artist, and later in life art became her passion. After following her son to the front range where she became very involved in numerous Denver art gallery's and won many awards. She was a huge advocate for animals, rescuing many. She had a passion for restoring old homes and racing her Porsche. She was awarded a Historical Preservation award for her work on her 1910 Victorian in Westminster, Colo. She has truly loved being "HOME" in Crested Butte and was excited every year as the leaves began to change and the snow would begin to fall. She would always remind us about the coming holidays and her Colorado Christmas. Lin frequently reminisced about her Denver Bronco's and the good ole days of Crested Butte, skiing head wall and dancing polka late into the evening, She loved it here. Lin was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Mercedes Swartz, and the love of her life Bill Sweitzer. She leaves behind her beloved son Tyron Sweitzer, daughter in Law Tara Sweitzer, sister Tacy Crenshaw, nephew's Ben and Trent Sweitzer, niece's Tammy and Christie, great nephew Hayden and great niece Daisy, many many friends and her steadfast cat Armani whom never left her side. Lin will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 23, 2017 at Woods Walk. Followed by an Artist reception at her home in Riverbend. All are welcome. (Furry friends too). In lieu of flowers she asked that donations be made to the Zane Mason Art Scholarship fund at Bank of the West.
