Marjorie L. Tiner

Marjorie’s life began on Jan. 23, 1930 in Pratt, Kan. She is the daughter of Ralph E. and Ola Jane (Gray) Wright. Marjorie was united in marriage to James Tiner on August 26, 1951 at the Mulvane United Methodist Church. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in English, Drama and Education, Marjorie began a 35 year career as an educator. She taught in New Jersey, Mass., Bushton, Kan. and finally 31 years in El Dorado at Jefferson, Skelly and Washington Elementary Schools, most of those years teaching first grade.

Marjorie was a member of the NEA, Kansas NEA, the First United Methodist Church, and her book club. She was an avid reader, collector of dolls and teddy bears. Marjorie enjoyed quilting, sewing, scrapbooking and especially watching her grandchildren learn, grow and play. She was also an avid letter writer, and loved sending cards to family and friends, never missing an occasion. She and Jim spent 53 summers in Colorado where she loved growing her flowers. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband of 66 years, Jim of El Dorado; his undying love and respect of Marjorie is shared by their children Carrie Lou Tiner-Johnson and James Jubal Tiner; grandchildren Melissa Lou Johnson Wilson and her husband Daren Wilson, Colby Elizabeth Johnson and her husband David Johnson, Edward Chance Johnson, Olivia Helena Tiner and Griffin James Tiner; great grandchildren Colin Turner Wilson, Nathan Cole Wilson, Seth Ryan Wilson, Carly Ann Wilson and Kiley Elizabeth Johnson and her 20 year friend and caregiver Marcella Schmidt.

Marjorie passed away on Nov. 28, 2017 at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents, son in law Edward Johnson, sisters Donna Dunbar and Janel Ebersole and brother Ralph Wright, Jr. Her family gathered with friends on Friday, Dec. 1 from 1-3 p.m. at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where her service of remembrance was held at 3 p.m. Marjorie was laid to rest on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. in Newkirk Cemetery in Newkirk, Okla.
