Oscar 'Fred' Glass, Jr.

Olathe resident, Oscar “Fred” Glass, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Dec. 8, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. He was 87. Oscar Glass, Jr., was born to Oscar Fred Glass, Sr., and Leah P. (Andrezen) Glass on Nov. 29, 1927, in McCook, Neb. Fred spent his childhood in Elm Creek, Neb., and attended schools in Boulder. After graduation, he attended Western State Colorado University where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was in the 101st Airborne in World War II. On Sept. 30, 1978, Fred married Sandra Lee Lesser in Gunnison. The family made their home in Gunnison for 65 years before moving to Olathe seven years ago. Fred owned Gunnison Redi- Mix. He was a lifetime member of Gunnison Elk’s #2613, Gideon’s, Kairos Prison Ministry, Olathe V.F.W., Gunnison Navy, and he was a strong supporter of CMA. Fred enjoyed being a pilot, hunting, fishing, chocolate and rafting the Black Canyon. Fred was an avid outdoorsman. Fred is survived by his wife, Sandy Glass of Olathe; one daughter, Melody E. Glass of Kendallville, Ind.; three sons, Fred “O” Glass of Canon City, Dan A. (Sue) Glass of Gunnison, and Tim J. Glass of Olathe; one brotherin- law, Smokey Baer of California; two sisters, June Hill of California and Joyce Glass of Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Fred is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Frank Glass; three sisters: Joana, Lucy, Renee; and a brother, Jim. Visitation and viewing will be held from 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Funeral service’s honoring Fred’s life will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Greenfield officiating. A memorial for Fred will be held in Gunnison on Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. at the New Song Christian Fellowship, with Rick Barton and Mark Bruton officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Fred’s name to HopeWest Hospice at P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416; or to the Wounded Warrior Project at PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
