Hillary Michelle Moon

It is with tremendous sadness and an overwhelming sense of loss that the family of Hillary Michelle Moon announces that she lost her battle with depression on Dec. 14,2014 in Crested Butte. Hillary was born March 9, 1978, in LaGrande, Ore., and lived in Las Cruces, N.M., until 1985, when her family relocated to Gunnison, then Crested Butte. She graduated from Gunnison High School in 1996. Hillary relocated to Snowmass Village where she was employed by the town in Parks and Trails and Village Locksmith and was the only female jumper in Ski Splash in 1997. She was later employed at the Aspen Airport by Wisconsin Air. Hillary’s next adventure took her to Denver in 2001 to pursue an education in culinary arts at The Art Institute of Colorado while employed at DIA. She was currently employed at Paradise Cafe and Alpengardener in Crested Butte. Hillary had been a passionate lover of the outdoors since childhood and lived life to the fullest. She loved adventures of all kinds including hiking the Maroon Bells, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ziplining, bungee jumping, horseback riding, camping, traveling, bicycling on mountain trails and her pink “townie” in CB. Hillary enjoyed attending outdoor music festivals and concerts around Colorado. She had been a member of the Crested Butte Mountain Man Rendezvous since childhood and attended many statewide gatherings. Hillary was a volunteer for Kids, Cancer and Cowboys in Gunnison. Hillary was an avid reader, loved horses and Chihuahuas and had amazing gifts of humor and creativity. She loved the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea around the island of Cozumel, Mexico. To Hillary, it was the most beautiful place in the world. Hillary is survived by two sons whom she adored, Liam Folan of Castle Rock, and Aidan Poswalk of Crested Butte; father  Mike Moon of Crested Butte; mother and stepfather Carolyn and Michael Cain of New Castle, Colo.; stepsister Melanie (Mike) Brooks and niece and nephew Hailey and Blaise; stepbrother Shawn Cain and nephew Shaun; grandmother Becky Carinci of Washington; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and she was loved by numerous friends who were like family to her. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Albert and Lois Carinci, and paternal grandparents, Harold and Evelyn Moon. Hillary was cremated and Celebrations of Life services will be held in Crested Butte and Cozumel at a later date.
