A tactic aimed at boosting the number of Gunnison Sagegrouse in the birds’ outlying populations appears to be paying off. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) officials have recognized that the birds’ Gunnison Basin population is stable. However, they’ve pinned a proposal to “list” the bird under the Endangered Species Act to dwindling populations elsewhere.
