David W. Sweetkind

David W. Sweetkind passed away May 12, 2016 at his home in Albuquerque, N.M. He was 84. David was a Gunnison resident and faculty member of the then-named Western State College from 1966 through 1987. At WSC, David served as a Professor of Music, then Chairman of the Division of Music and finally Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities. David presented numerous solo and chamber music recitals in Gunnison and throughout Colorado and presented a oneman art exhibit of his works at WSC in 1984. David was a member of the Board of Directors of the Webster Players from 1968-1982 and was musical director for such popular shows as “Guys and Dolls” and “Annie Get Your Gun”.
 
David was predeceased by his wife, Irene “Sam” Sweetkind, in 2004. David is survived by his three children; Donald Sweetkind, Julie Sweetkind-Singer and Beth Brockway; by three grandchildren; Melissa and Maggie Brockway and Reid Sweetkind; by his daughter-in-law Karen Smith; and sons-in-law, James Brockway and Joshua-Sweetkind-Singer.
