Dr. Bernard Roy ‘Pete’ Bouchard

Dr. Bernard Roy “Pete” Bouchard, 89, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at the Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo.
 
Pete Bouchard was born on Feb. 17, 1927, in Concord, Vt. to Joseph and Delerese (Roy) Bouchard. He is survived by his wife, Yvette (Gonzalez) Bouchard of Pueblo, Colo. and his older brother, Maurice Bouchard, of Lewiston, Maine.
 
In his early years he married his former spouse Bevalie (Bonardi) Bouchard and is also survived by their children Kimberley Bouchard, Antonia “Toni” Bouchard, Joseph Bouchard (predeceased), Edward Bouchard, Patricia “Trish” Spencer, Bernard Roy “Pete” Bouchard II, Catherine “Katie” Bouchard, Andrew Bouchard, Frederick Bouchard, Mary Jane Downes, Norman Bouchard and Carolyn Black.
 
He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Allyson Santos of Pueblo, Colo. and Natasha Wright of Westminster, Colo.
 
Pete was also blessed with 32 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
 
Pete had a varied and interesting life. Prior to becoming a college educator, he worked as a policeman, forest fire warden, public school teacher, sailor, auto repair shop owner, ski patrolman and semi-professional baseball player. Pete held a BA in Maritime Transportation and Nautical Science from the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., a BS in Physical Education from Arnold College and an MS and PhD from the University of Utah in Education. He taught high school general science, biology and physics in Chester, Vt.; Littleton, N.H.; and Salt Lake City, Utah. After he earned his PhD, he taught at Western State College (WSC) in Gunnison as a Professor of Education from the fall of 1968 through 1987. At various times he served on the faculty senate, as the Director of Admissions and as the Director of Academic Services. After retiring from WSC he provided personal counseling services and then worked for Colorado Boys Ranch administering biofeedback services and counseling.
 
Pete had many activities he enjoyed including skiing, hunting in the Colorado mountains, golfing and boating.
 
He will be warmly remembered and missed by his family, friends, former students and colleagues.
 
A Memorial Service to celebrate Pete Bouchard’s life is being planned in Gunnison, Colo. for this summer and will be announced at a future date.
