Glenda Kay (Newt on) Meldrum, of Gunnison, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, June 17 surrounded by her loving family and supported by numerous distant family and friends. Glenda was the daughter of Robert and Edna Newton. She was born and grew up in Birmingham, Ala. Glenda graduated from Erwin High School in Birmingham and attended Jefferson State Community College where she acquired an associate degree in nursing. She then attended Samford University and the University of Alabama where she received her BA in nursing, as well as working toward her master’s at Regis University in Denver. lenda had a 30 year career in the nursing field which culminated at Gunnison Valley Home Health and Hospice. Glenda was always motivated to not only provide great patient care but was constantly researching the various options her patients may have. Glenda had an intense love of the outdoors, hiking the mountains, gardening, skiing, biking and most recently paddle boarding. She also loved reading, dancing, long walks in nature and quiet romantic dinners. Glenda’s quest for excellence had her not only on a mission to provide unwavering medical nursing but to excel in almost anything she tried. Her passion for loving and nurturing everyone, including family, patients and co-workers, was her trademark. Her greatest pleasure, however, was to spend time with her family, and she especially enjoyed spending that family time on vacations. She will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family.
