Johnnie E. Pappin

Mr. Johnnie E. Pappin, 88, of Bartlesville, Okla., retired former Deputy Sheriff and police officer, died at 12:45 a.m. on Friday, June 20, in Bartlesville. Mr. Pappin was born on June 12, 1926, at Pawhuska, Okla., to John LaForce and Maggie (Gandy) Pappin. He was raised and received his education at Pawhuska where he graduated high school. Following his graduation he worked for a few years with his brother-in-law as a cabinet maker, where he acquired his love for woodworking. He was later employed first as a police officer, and the later as a Sheriff’s Deputy for the Ford County Sheriff’s Office in Dodge City, Kan. He was married to Margaret Chitwood on March 15, 1971, at Howard, Kan. He was well known for his woodcarving and woodworking abilities, and it was said that he could “make anything or fix anything.” He was also known as an excellent artist. Mr. Pappin is survived by his wife Margaret of Bartlesville; by three daughters, Maggie (Jerry) Lozano of Gunnison; Sherry Hughes of Pawhuska; and Karen Pappin of Louisiana; by two sons, Eugene Chitwood of Stillwater, Okla.; and Robert Pappin of Pawhuska; and five grandchildren, Cody Chitwood, Zachary Chitwood, Joshua Chitwood, Jerry Lozano Jr. and Joseph Lozano. Mr. Pappin was preceded in death by his parents; by two sons, John Patrick Pappin and Michael Pappin; grandson Austin Chitwood; and granddaughter Emily Lozano. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 23, in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlesville, with Pastor Steve Griffith, Chaplain of the Cornerstone Hospice, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial Contribution may be made in Mr. Pappin’s memory to the Journey Home, 3406 S.
