Patrick Alexander Reilly

Patrick Alexander Reilly of Gunnison died at home on April 28 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Pat was born in Peoria, Ill., Dec. 29, 1947, to Robert T. Reilly and Dorothy Alexander Reilly. He grew up in Davenport, Iowa, and graduated from Assumption High School. Pat serviced in the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and 1969. He fought in Vietnam, receiving honors, including a Purple Heart. He came to Gunnison to attend Western State College, graduating in 1975 with a B.A. in history, geology and biology. Pat loved the mountains, big game hunting, fishing, duck hunting, hiking and camping. He shared his passion for the outdoors with his sons, wife and friends. Pat and Marilyn Moeller met while skiing in Crested Butte and were married in August 1971. Son Christopher was born in 1972, and son Matthew in 1975. Pat is survived by wife Marilyn; sons Christopher and Matthew and granddaughter Paulina, Pat’s only grandchild; mother Dorothy (Jack) McDade; siblings Susan (Ed) Radle; Timothy (Kathleen) Reilly, Peggy (Tim) Loyd, Michael Reilly, Shawn (Beth) Reilly, Daniel (Paula) Reilly, Kerry (Kristi) Reilly; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Military Honor Service will be held June 14 at the Gunnison Cemetery at 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Aspinall Wilson Center. Donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or the Vietnam Memorial Fund in Patrick’s name.
