Paul H. Gery

Paul H. Gery of Gunnison passed away on Oct. 28, 2015. Paul was born in Reading, Penn. on April 11, 1932, the son of Howard and Blanch Gery.

He received a bachelor of philosophy degree from Penn State, where he met his future wife, Ann. After their marriage Paul and Ann moved to Sampson AFB in New York,  where he was stationed. Their first child, Sue, was born at that time. Later, Paul and family were transferred to Lowry AFB in Colorado where their second child, David, was born.

Paul and his wife found Colorado to be the place they wanted to make their permanent home. So, when Paul left the Air Force the family moved to Boulder, where Paul completed his graduate studies at CU with a master’s in philosophy. Laurie and Jim, their last two children, were born while Paul was in graduate school.

In 1963 Paul obtained a position as professor of philosophy at Western State College in Gunnison (now Western State Colorado University) and spent his professional life there.

After retiring in 2000 Paul devoted most of his time to his passions — live theater and music performances, film, travel, politics, playing bridge and visiting with family and friends. His beloved wife, Ann, who shared many of those passions, preceded him in death.

Paul is survived by his four children, Sue “R” Gery of Loveland, Colo., David Gery of Gunnison, Laurie Gery of Thornton, Colo., Jim Gery of Thornton, daughter-in-law Kathleen Ermitage of Thornton, loving companion Elsa Grant of Ft. Collins, Colo., and a wide circle of family and friends. Memorial service details will be announced at a later date.
