Shirley Corn

Shirley Corn, daughter of D.H. and Mildred Cummins, born Jan. 9, 1942, mother of Bill, Bob, Kimberly and Kristen, grandmother of Bobbie, Sutton, Olivia, Lilli, Izzi, Joey and Liam, moved on to the next fishing hole on March 18. Known as Mama Corn to those she touched, she graduated from Western State Col lege and went on to be come the Southwest Educator of the Year while teaching science in Phoenix, Ariz. She moved back to Gunnison and helped to start the Blue Iguana Mexican restaurant where she nurtured and guided yet another generation. She was constantly on the move camping, fishing, bird watching and gardening. She was always helping others in her church, the nursing home and as a hospice volunteer. Above all else she was an educator who taught us to live, love and laugh. We miss her terribly but know that her incredible legacy will be carried on by those that she has touched. In lieu of services, the family requests that you take that time to embrace life and those that you love.
