Former Crested Buttian captures gold in London

While no one thought David could beat Goliath, you might say the same was true for Emma Coburn when she toed the line alongside Beatrice Chepkoech last week. The Kenyan was the fastest qualifier and favorite to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the World Championships in London on Aug. 11.
While Coburn had proven her potential, to that point standing atop the world’s steeplechase podium had eluded her. Steeplechase is a race on a track that features 28 barriers and seven water jumps.
