The sign was clear in the freshfallen snow: pitch fork-footed sage grouse tracks and prints pressed into the mud by a herd of deer.
As I ran the Ridge Trail toward Signal Peak Saturday morning, I couldn’t escape the significance of what I was seeing: Abundant evidence of the two animals whose future most concerns sportsmen opposed to 20 miles of new singletrack development on the ground near where I jogged.
