Managing recreation a bold move

Across Colorado, communities are wringing their hands over how best to manage a growing number of people who want to frolic in the backcountry playground we have to offer — and the impacts resulting from that recreation.

Gunnison County is taking a unique approach to tackling the problem. In the latest version of the county’s strategic plan, adopted Tuesday, county leaders by Dec. 31 of this year intend to establish an organizational framework for a Sustainable Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Strategic Committee.
