Report shines light on local ‘poverty’

One in five Gunnison County kids live in poverty. What’s even more startling, local and statewide child advocates say, is that the proportion of our young population that is significantly economically disadvantaged i s likely much higher. This was the takehome message from the 2014 Kids Count report, compiled by the nonprofit Colorado Children’s Campaign. Leaders of this organization, which has been working on behalf of our state’s young people for 28 years, were in town this week giving presentations to local community members.
