What tear gas taught me about resilience

I wonder if I am the only one who notices something peculiar about our community. That is, the mountains all around us do more than put simple distance between us and our nearest neighbors. They also seem able to filter and shape reality, so that life in the Gunnison Valley is oddly insulated from the rest of the world — at least from the world as it is depicted in the news. Frankly, this can be a little disorienting.
