Why not ‘One Valley’ for building codes?

Every few years, local governments begin the often contentious process of updating building codes. The construction industry gets up in arms, while energy efficiency advocates and firefighting officials implore policy makers to enact more stringent requirements. Building codes are one of the least sexy aspects of local government policy. However, they have a real impact on cost of living — and that should catch the attention of anyone in today’s era of ever-increasing housing expenses and the affordability conundrum.
