Final listing decision deadline extended; ‘special rule’ to be proposed

A final determination for whether the Gunnison Sage-grouse warrants protect ion under the Endangered Species Act won’t occur by May 12 as previously planned. A six-month extension on that de adline was approved Tuesday. However, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) officials did signal this week the direction they may be leaning. The agency indicated in a prepared statement that the extension will provide time to review whether “final listing as a ‘threatened species’ may be necessary.”
