BLM delves into drought response planning

Prolonged drought in western Colorado has prompted the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to begin modification of authorized uses on public lands — including livestock grazing practices — to reduce the potential impact of drought-related stress on fragile rangeland. The Uncompahgre Field Office (UFO) recently requested input from Gunnison County Commissioners as the process gets underway. A small portion of western Gunnison County lies within UFO boundaries, though the Gunnison Field Office (GFO), which covers the remainder of the county, is also engaged in preliminary drought response planning.
