Doris ‘Dotie’ Meldrum

Doris “Dotie” Meldrum passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Dec. 27, 2015 at the age of 91. Dotie was born in Delta, Colo. on Oct. 12, 1924 to Earl and Eva Meacham. She met her future husband, Gale, in high school, although he attended the rival school of Olathe. They eloped to Salt Lake City in 1945. Before Dotie and Gale made their long term home in Gunnison, they lived in Fort Walton, Fla.; Yakima, Wash.; Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Glenwood Springs, Colo. Dotie was a bright light in the lives of her family and friends. Her quick wit could make anyone laugh out loud. She was the matriarch of the family and instrumental is starting the original family hotel business with their first hotel purchase of ParkView Motel in 1963 in Gunnison. She was always optimistic with a smile on her face and a plan in her mind.
We love to remember her sitting with us enjoying a Bud Light Lime and joking around. Dotie is survived by her two sons, Steve and Bob; her daughter-in-law Shawn and her grandkids; Michael and his wife; Amy, Amanda, Kristin, Kelly and Andrea. Dotie was preceded in death by her husband, Gale, of 68 years; her daughter-in-laws, Donna and Glenda; her parents; and her two sisters Earlyne and Beth. Dotie was greatly loved and will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Gunnison Valley Hospice.
