Signal Peak: A Complete Streets redux

The recent groundswell of opposition to the Signal Peak trails proposal is reminiscent to a similar public outcry that occurred about a year ago over the City of Gunnison’s “Complete Streets” concept. Both were long-discussed, community driven and widely supported concepts — albeit with flaws — that upon nearing the finish line suddenly drew more intense interest.

Part of this is natural. People are busy leading their lives, running their businesses and raising their families. Getting them to engage in public processes is difficult, especially early on when whatever issue is being discussed seems far away and theoretical.
