Duane R. Phelps

Duane R. Phelps, 85, passed away June 14, 2016 at his home in Parlin in the care of Hospice and his family. Duane spent his first four years in the Powderhorn Valley. He was number 10 out of 11 siblings. Th e family moved to a ranch west of Gunnison where he lived until he bought his own ranch in Parlin in 1958. Duane was a life time rancher and horseman who cowboyed on most of the ranges of the Gunnison Basin. He was particularly fond of Fossil Ridge and Taylor Park. Duane had several great horses and dogs in his life. “He made them that way”; Clem, Roman Milo, Chico, Sadie and others. Survivors include sisters Letha Vader and Ina Fay Vader along with many nieces and nephews. His daughter Marvella Phelps Maldarella (Tony); son Brad Phelps (Michelle); and daughter Jill Phelps would like to Thank Gunnison Valley Health both Home Health and Hospice for their support these last few weeks. Duane asked his family to take him on his final ride in the rangelands that he loved later this fall.
