John Adams 'Johnny' Wilson

John Adams “Johnny” Wilson, 66, a Nowata and Osage County Rancher, died Thursday, Jan. 8 at his home in Nowata County, Okla. Mr. Wilson was born on June 19, 1948, in Colorado Springs to Joann (Adams) and John Foster Wilson. He grew up and received his education in Gunnison, graduating from high school there in 1966. He attended Western State College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. He was active in ranching all of his life, first in Colorado and then in Osage County, Okla. In 2002 he moved to Nowata County, Okla., and was an active rancher in Nowata County as well as Osage County. He was married to Polly Bedell on Dec. 18, 1982, in Gunnison. He enjoyed ranching and politics and was very civic minded. In Gunnison, he served on the planning commission, the school board, was president of the Stockgrowers Association and president of the Gunnison Cattlemen’s Days Association. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Polly (Bedell) Wilson of Nowata; one son, Corb Adams (Kalyn) Wilson of Nowata; and two grandchildren, Braden Wilson and Sam Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, “Big John” Wilson and Joann Wilson. Memorial services for Mr. Wilson were held Jan. 15 at the Rose Hill Community Baptist Church in Dewey, Okla., with Pastor Rick Barton of Gunnison and Rev. Orville Moody of the Rose Hill Church officiating. Memorial services and cremation are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory in Bartlesville, Okla. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to Rick Barton Ministries, P.O.
